In this video you can see how to measure and hang pelmets
How to measure
At the top of your window frame measure an inch either side of the frame, you can measure more than this if you would like your pelmet to be longer. The inch either side extra is so the pelmet will frame your window.
Tools And Fixings Needed
- 2 x 2 inch L brackets and 4 x half inch pan head self tapping screws ( we post these with pelmet orders, 3 brackets needed if pelmet is over 9 ft)
- 1x Philip’s star head screwdriver or cordless drill preferred method if you have one
- 1x sharp pincer screwdriver or small drill bit for cordless drill for pilot hole
How To Hang The Pelmets
Bring your brackets in 2 inches either side of your frame, you don’t want them right at the end of your frame on either side.
Notes: On frames That don’t Have wood or pvc strips along the top of your window
most window frames either have wood, or a pvc strip running across the top, this is were you will hang the pelmets from, if there is no wooden or pvc strip across the top which is more common in new house builds that have plasterboard or gyproc window walls, chances are there is a wooden strap underneath the plasterboard.
I f your’e ready to hang the pelmets you can use a stud detector to check if there is a wooden strip underneath the surface, a cheaper method if you don’t have a stud detector is to just get a 1 and a half inch wood screw and attempt to screw it into the position were you would like to put the brackets, if it tightens you are good to go.
If you already have curtain poles up you will want to screw the brackets on just above the height of the brackets that holds the curtain poles. If ordering pelmets from us ,please tell us if you have curtain poles up and you intend to keep them up, our standard pelmets are a 10 inch drop, and come out 5 inches from the wall. If you have poles in place we come out 7 inches from the wall, allowing you room for manoeuvre.
Again if ordering with curtain poles in place take in to consideration the entire length of the poles, your pelmet will have to be able to go right over the top of the poles ends, most of these types of poles are extendible and can be adjusted to fit. In some cases we have taken of the round type balls off of the poles to fit.
